NORTH KINGSTOWN—A group of 24 residents have submitted a new complaint to Rhode Island Superior Court last Wednesday, disputing the town council’s approval of comprehensive plan and zoning amendments to allow the Rolling Greens development at the intersection of Route 102 and 2 to move forward. The town has been at loggerheads for the past several months with residents whose properties abut the site and officials from the Town of Exeter who feel that the development violates the rural character of the area.
The comprehensive plan and zoning amendments, approved in June by a vote of 3-2, would allow developer Mark Hawkins, owner of M.L. Hawk’s Realty, to develop up to 40,000 square feet of commercial space alongside approximately 106 new housing units. The comprehensive plan changes included re-designating the site as a Compact Village District (CVD), which accommodates a mixed residential-commercial development.
