COVENTRY— After three years of being the town finance director in Coventry, Ted Przybyla has secured a job as the new finance director for North Kingstown.
He signed a one-year $105,000 contract to replace former finance director Patricia Sunderland, who left her position in the spring. He begins on Oct. 21.
Prior to working in Coventry, Przybyla worked as the finance director in Woonsocket, before replacing Warren West following a controversial resignation in November of 2010.
“Leaving is definitely bittersweet,” he said. “I really enjoyed here; it’s been a great experience. The people have been really supportive; I can’t say enough about the staff.”
He explained that although both towns are similar in population and budget size, North Kingstown poses different challenges than Coventry because of its coastal location.
He is not worried however, because “I’m familiar with some of the aspects of North Kingstown like Quonset Point because I was involved with private real-estate there during one of my previous jobs.”
One of the bigger issues among many cities and towns is unfunded pension liability.
Przybyla explained that North Kingstown is currently under the state pension system, which makes it easier in his opinion.
