WAKEFIELD - A new assistant principal, David Flaherty, is joining The Prout School this year.
Education is the family business for Flaherty and he is continuing the tradition.
Flaherty said his parents were both professors. His father worked at Providence College, which Flaherty attended, and his mother worked at the University of Rhode Island. He said he also has several aunts and uncles in education, in addition to two of his sisters. His wife is also a guidance counselor at East Greenwich High School.
He is a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Rhode Island Association of Secondary School Principals, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the Rhode Island Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. He also has served on the NEASC Secondary School Commission, and has served as chair or assistant chair of several visitation teams throughout New England.
Flaherty is a proud graduate of Providence College, and holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics, history and secondary education, as well as a master's of education in secondary administration.
Flaherty comes to Prout from Birchwood Middle School in North Providence, where he served as principal for the last four years. Prior to his service at Birchwood, Flaherty served as assistant principal of North Providence High School.
Flaherty is exited to come to Prout after spending 19 years working in public schools.
"I want to help The Prout School in any way I can to increase enrollment and to keep the school a vibrant Catholic institution," he said.
