West Warwick Lions Club raise money for transplant recipient

The West Warwick Lions Club is selling pashmina scarves at the Providence Blood Center’s Holiday Mall. The money being raised will be donated to a young woman in need. Jessica Boisclair. Kent County Daily Times.

WEST WARWICK — The West Warwick Lions Club are participating in the Rhode Island Blood Center’s Holiday Mall where they have a table set up from Monday through Friday of this week.

Lions Club President Paul Isenberg explained that after being away for awhile, The West Warwick Lions Club returned about a year ago to begin helping others around the community again.

At the Holiday Mall, the Lions Club has been selling pashmina scarves, which are made from silk or wool. He explained that all the donations from selling these scarves will be going a young woman in need.

Isenberg said that this young woman is in need of a double lung transplant. He added that she received her first one in 2009 but unfortunately another transplant is needed.

He explained that since they were contacted by her family, the Lions Club has been raising money to help the young woman. He said that because there are only two hospitals that will do a second lung transplant, her and her family had to move down to South Carolina in September to be close to Duke University.

During this time, they continue to wait to hear back about a donor.
