COVENTRY—Swimmers from Coventry will be joined by people across the country and even Canada for the 35th Annual Citizen’s Bank Save the Bay swim.
On July 23, both competitive and recreational swimmers will gather at Dewey Field in Newport to dive in for a 1.7 mile swim to Jamestown.
According to Gretchen Heath, the event director, the swim was booked with 475 swimmers within the first five weeks.
Eight swimmers are from Coventry: Barbara Bird, second year, Patrick Carr, second year, Becky Gagnon, seventh year, John Gautreaux, fourth year, Alan Hollenbeck, seventeenth year, Christina Lorenson, second year, Eric Shanley, fourth year, and Austin Watson, twelfth year.
Thus far, the Coventry swimmers have raised $1,435, with a collective goal of $10,875.
“There’s a lot of communication and buzz about the swim,” said Heath. “It’s become much more popular, as competitive swimmers are recognizing it’s a fun event.”
