WWPD cops dispute web ranking

August 28, 2014

WEST WARWICK— A recent report from Law Street, a website-based organization geared towards reporting factual information on law and public policy, has ranked West Warwick as the fourth most dangerous town in the state. Rhode Island was ranked the 38th most dangerous state in the country, according to statistics Law Street used from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s most recent Uniform Crime Report: Crime in the United States 2012.

West Warwick Police Chief Richard Silva explained that the statistics Law Street used ranked Rhode Island at a fairly good standing compared to other, more dangerous states in the country. Based on that, Silva believes the state as a whole is significantly safer, thus making West Warwick not as dangerous as the report may make it seem.
