The West Warwick Wizards now stand all alone atop the Division II standings.
Junior guard Max Motroni poured in a game high 33 points, to go along with nine assists and seven rebounds to lead his team to a 95-86 victory over the North Providence Cougars.
Teammates John Morrison chipped in 25 points and senior forward Chuck Dalton came through with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
âIt was a thrilling game to be a part of, it felt more like a Big East game than a high school game, the atmosphere was great,â admitted West Warwick head coach Richard Grenier. âThey were playing off of Max, I think they were scared by his ability to penetrate to the rim and he took advantage of that space and he put up shots that were dropping for him. Not only was he effective shooting, but I thought he was great at getting other guys involved offensively and I can say that Max is becoming one of the top guards not just in Division II, but in the entire state.â
West Warwick came out on fire in the first half, shooting 23-for-34 from the floor in scoring 57 points.
Motroni and Morrison were extremely hot from downtown, going a combined 9-for-12 from three point territory against the Cougars 1-2-2 zone defense.
