EAST GREENWICH — Could one of those wind turbines that have recently popped up around the state possibly find a home in East Greenwich?
That idea was kicked around by members of the East Greenwich Planning Board last Wednesday evening at Town Hall, where the six-member quorum spend a little over an hour discussing the topic of having the alternative energy source find a home in the small community.
Planning Director Lisa Bourbonnais refreshed the Planning Board’s memory that there was legislation being developed about wind turbines during the spring, as well as mentioning in the recently-approved comprehensive plan about renewable energy, but not wanting something that is “unsightly” end “encroaching.” Bourbonnais then said the Town Council, back in June, placed a moratorium regarding wind turbines so the Planning Board can look into the matter further to see if they would be beneficial to East Greenwich. As a result, Bourbonnais said the Town Council gave the Planning Department a period of six months – until December – to come up with “an appropriate, well-considered, cohesive regulation” regarding turbines.
