EXETER—At 10:37 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the temperature in Exeter was 72.5 degrees with a wind blowing from the southwest at five miles per hour. One might assume that this seemingly mundane information was gathered from The Weather Channel or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA’s) website, but that person would be wrong; the information is now being broadcast in real-time from Exeter’s town hall.
In partnership with National Grid and EarthWorks, a business dedicated to creating networks of accurate, localized weather information, the Town of Exeter has erected a WeatherBug station, a long pole with a number of instruments attached measuring temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, and more detailed meteorological information.
