Walsh named vice chairwoman of natural resources board

January 20, 2011

PROVIDENCE - Rep. Donna M. Walsh has been appointed vice chairwoman of the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee, House Speaker Gordon D. Fox announced this week.

The Environment and Natural Resources Committee hears all matters before the House pertaining to environmental issues such as conservation, pollution, renewable energy and the green economy. Walsh (D-Dist. 36, Charlestown, New Shoreham, South Kingstown and Westerly) has been a member of the committee since joining the House in 2007.

She has also been appointed secretary of the Committee on Small Business, which was created last year to bring more focus to the importance of the small business community to Rhode Island's economy.

It reviews legislation relating to the streamlining of licenses and permits, eliminating or decreasing bureaucratic steps and delays and uncoordinated or duplicate reviews and filings, and reducing associated added costs to businesses. Walsh has been a member of that committee since its inception.

Additionally, she will again serve as a member of the House Corporations Committee, which handles legislation and matters relating to financial institutions, business regulation, property and casualty insurance and consumer protection. She has served on that committee since 2009.
