COVENTRY— Under a shaded tent alongside the Station Street portion of the Coventry Greenway Bike Path, a group of war veterans was cooling off after a four-mile cycling ride as part of the New England Veterans Summer Sports Clinic. The rehabilitation program is partnered with Veteran Administration (VA) Centers among other non-profit organizations to bring adaptive sports to veterans as a form of physical therapy.
The first day of the two-day event began around 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning on the bike path with several volunteers and medical staff to help veterans have a safe and enjoyable cycling activity. The 45 veterans were split into two groups and were participating in water skiing on Johnson’s Pond simultaneously. After lunch at the Coventry Memorial VFW Post, the groups switched and participated in the other sporting activity.
