URI students shine in ‘Chicago’

April 23, 2014

KINGSTON-The University of Rhode Island Theatre Department mastered the art of bringing a dark plot and comedy together in their rendition of “Chicago.”

The classic musical with a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse features a cast of mainly female characters with twisted and cynical minds who murder their husbands and lovers in hope of becoming famous. The musical opens with the song “All That Jazz” sung by Velma Kelly, played by senior Julia Bartoletti. Bartoletti mastered her role as an attention hungry murderess while hitting every musical note perfectly.
