Joe Trainer’s five-year run as the head football coach at the University of Rhode Island came to an end Monday morning when the 43-year-old was released from his contract with one year remaining.
Trainer, who led the Rams to a 3-9 season after they didn’t win a game in 2012, saw his URI career come to an end following a 41-0 defeat to Maine. The Rams were outscored 191-27 in the last four games of the season.
