Updates to hazard mitigation plan shared

July 24, 2014

EAST GREENWICH — A public hearing was held during the East Greenwich Planning Board’s meeting last Wednesday evening to share updates on the hazard mitigation plan that will help the Town be ready if an emergency poses a threat to East Greenwich.
Peter Cusolito, a Senior Security & Emergency Management Consultant for VHB, which has an office in Providence, gave both the Planning Board and the public a half-hour presentation identifying the needs of addressing some trouble spots in East Greenwich in order to be prepared for a natural disaster, weather-related or otherwise.
The Town initially implemented a hazard mitigation plan back in 2006, according to Planning Director Lisa Bourbonnais, and it’s required to be updated every five years. She also stated that the process of updating the plan began a couple years ago and found that there were things “that [the Town] could down on [its] own,” after going through the process most of the way.
