WEST WARWICK — Following discussions between council members, the town manager and Director of the Building Department Kerry Anderson, the council approved two $2,000 raises for the minimum housing inspector and the electrical inspector.
Anderson’s reason for suggesting these raises was based on the fact that he believed these employees, who are non-union, do go above and beyond what is asked of them; due to an increased effort to build up the town, it presents a more demanding work load.
The main issue Councilman Angelo Padula Jr. had during the workshop was justifying how the town can give two people, Melissa Hicks and Joe Argenti, raises when the town is trying to get out of a pension deficit and no one else gets raises.
The minimum housing inspector’s salary’s last year was $35,000. The $2,000 raise has been incorporated into the FY 2015 budget.
The electrical inspector’s salary last year was $35,000. This year it will be $37,500.
