WEST WARWICK— The Station Fire Memorial Park was officially been granted property tax exemption last Thursday, saving the Foundation roughly $1,500 annually.
A memorial park is in the works of being built with construction on hold until final approval from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management. The tax exempt status will relieve worries for the Station Fire Memorial Foundation about the park’s annual overhead.
The Station Fire Memorial Foundation acquired ownership of the land where the park will be built in late 2012, when it was gifted by landowner Raymond Villanova. All of the construction is being completed solely on a volunteer basis so development for the park will happen over a longer period of time.
