Skippers score first Schomp title

May 8, 2014

Senior Ben Stewart set a new meet record at Saturday’s Schomp Invitational in the 100-meter hurdles and as a member of the 4x400-meter relay.

WEST GREENWICH — North Kingstown track coach Charlie Breagy loves the word “history” when it comes to his record breaking outdoor team, and after this weekend, he gets to say it a lot. The Skipper boys snatched the Schomp Invitational team title over rivals La Salle and Hendriken on Saturday at Exeter/West Greenwich High School, making it the first time in North history that a boys’ team has won this event.

“Track is booming at NK,” Breagy said during a phone interview on Monday. “These are our highest rankings ever; it’s a great confidence booster for the team.”
