SK musicians visit Music City for All-National Honors Fest

November 7, 2013

SKHS junior Willie Grear, left, and senior Justin Smith visited Nashville last week to participate in the All-National Honors Festival.

WAKEFIELD–Last week, two student musicians and their music instructor from South Kingstown High School paid a visit to Nashville to participate in the highly acclaimed All-National Honors Festival.

SKHS Director of Instrumental Music Don “Doc” Smith served as chaperone for students Willie Grear and Justin Smith, who is Doc’s son. The four day event featured extensive rehearsals, performances and seminars at different venues in Music City.

“Their participation is a direct indication of the high quality of music education that the students are acquiring in the music program at South Kingstown, including their music teachers in the middle school and elementary and the school system overall,” Smith said during an interview last week. “Over 3,000 students applied for membership in these ensembles from all over the United States. This was the most students who have ever applied for this event, making this the most competitive All-National National Association for music education history.”
