Senate Judiciary Committee hears a slew of bills on motor vehicle violations

STATE HOUSE – The Senate Judiciary Committee was scheduled to hear and consider a host of bills related to motor vehicle violations Thursday.

The hearings were scheduled for after the Times went to press.

Sen. V. Susan Sosnowski (D-District 37, South Kingstown, New Shoreham) is sponsoring five of the bills under consideration. Sosnowski’s bills include S 2231 and S 2474, which would grant judges and magistrates the authority to prohibit drivers adjudicated of certain motor vehicle offenses, such as driving under the influence of liquor and/or drugs, from operating a motor vehicle not equipped with an ignition interlock system. Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin is sponsoring bill S 2474.
