Second suspect in gas station robberies caught

WEST WARWICK — A multi-state, multi-agency search concluded late last week with the arrest of a Massachusetts teen, sought for over a week in connection with a pair of robberies and ensuing car chase.

According to a release issued by the RI State Police, the teen was arrested Friday morning in Springfield, Mass. by members of the Massachusetts and Rhode Island State Police. The other suspect, 23-year-old Monchi Castillo, is also from Springfield.

Castillo was arraigned in Third Division District Court last Monday and charged with First Degree Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Robbery, Second Degree Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Second Degree Robbery, and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon when committing a crime of violence.

The suspect arrested Friday, whose name is being withheld due to his juvenile status, was presented to the Hampton County (Mass.) Juvenile Court, where he was ordered held without bail pending an extradition hearing.
