Charter public schools in the state are generally performing well, according to the Rhode Island Department of Educationâ€™s report â€śThe State of Rhode Islandâ€™s Public Schoolsâ€ť released this month.
â€śThere is still work we need to do to ensure that all of our charter public schools are examples of excellence, but there is no doubt that our charters serve a vital function, which we see each year when the schools receive approximately 11 applications for each opening,â€ť Commissioner Deborah Gist wrote in the introduction to the report.
