Richmond residents try to stem the rising tide

Millions of gallons of water surround Dennis McGinity’s home in 2010, requiring him and his wife to evacuate for nearly four weeks.

RICHMOND–When the town council retired to executive session on April 15 to discuss potential litigation in the town of Richmond versus Aurelia Russell, Dennis McGinity had more pressing things on his mind - namely the rising tide around his home on KG Ranch Road.

“In 2010 DEM said there were eight to 10 million gallons of water surrounding my home,” McGinity said, showing pictures of a waterline on his walls over 4 feet high. “If you go by right now you’ll see probably three million gallons, I’ve been pumping for days.”
