U.S. Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse tour Electric Boat’s new submarine manufacturing facility in 2012.

NORTH KINGSTOWN—On Monday, U.S. Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) raised the U.S. Navy’s decision to award a $17.6 billion contract to Electric Boat in Quonset to build 10 additional Virginia-Class submarines. The contract, according to Reed, is another step towards providing skilled jobs for Rhode Islanders.

“This contract means submarine production at Quonset is on course and full speed ahead,” said Reed in a statement. “The additional work at EB’s facilities in Quonset is good news for job growth and economic growth in Rhode Island.”
