PUC holds hearings on water rate increase

March 26, 2014

Larry Fish, co-owner of Pier Cleaners on High Street, testified before the PUC last week, saying that if United Water hikes their rates again, he will be forced to pass the increase on to his customers - something he hasn’t done since 2011, despite the recession.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – A public hearing before the Public Utilities Commission [PUC] brought an estimated 25 residents to the town hall last Wednesday in protest of approximately $10 in proposed monthly increases – a 42.6 percent rate increase - from United Water, which was allowed a 18.31 percent increase in 2012.

The next hearing on the matter will be held at the Narragansett Town Hall tonight at 6 p.m.
