PROVIDENCE—On Tuesday evening, the State Properties Committee unanimously granted the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management an easement to conserve approximately 45 acres of open space along Snuff Mill Road in North Kingstown. The property, which was approved for purchase by the North Kingstown Town Council this past May, rests in the Narrow River Watershed area and was previously owned by the Benson family.
The 45-acre parcel, the acquisition cost of which totals $330,000, is being purchased by a number of state and local entities, including RIDEM, The Nature Conservancy, The Narrow River Land Trust (NRLT), and the Town of North Kingstown. The state will pay $167,500 of the total cost through an open space matching grant program.
