New hours at Charlestown transfer station

January 18, 2012

CHARLESTOWN - The Charlestown Transfer Station will have new hours of operation starting this week.

According to Town Administrator Bill DiLibero, the station will be open on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., with the exception of Monday, Jan. 16, in respects to the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The town of Charlestown will also be giving the public a chance to speak their minds at an open forum with the town council on Monday night, Jan. 23. at 7 p.m., at the town hall.

DiLibero said that forum will give residents an opportunity to “clear the air,” and let the council know if something is bugging them in town, or if there is something they would like to commend town employees for.

“It gives the public the opportunity to bring any issues they have to the town council,” he said.

In order to speak at the open forum, a citizen must register with the town clerk beforehand and disclose their intended topic of discussion. It will be a great chance to make suggestions for improvements to the council. Each person will be given five minutes at the podium to speak their mind.

The town council passed a motion to hold the forum unanimously at the council meeting on Jan. 9.

The town council also decided to hold an interesting discussion next month at a meeting. The potential formation of a subcommittee to explore the possible acquisition and development of the Cross Mills’ Fire Station building and property into a town center or town park was on the agenda for Jan. 9, but delayed because Councilwoman Lisa DiBello was not present.
