WARWICK — With one quick slam of the champagne bottle by New England Institute of Technology Senior Vice President Cheryl Connors across a model submarine Monday morning, a giant step forward in bridging the skills gap within Rhode Island was taken Monday morning.
State and local government officials, along with dignitaries and New England Tech faculty and administration, helped the college officially launch the new Shipbuilding/Marine and Advanced Manufacturing Institute (SAMI), a program that was established through a $2.5-million grant provided by the United States Department of Labor, the Governor’s Workforce Board of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Foundation, at the Post Road campus.
