NARRAGANSETT- The School Committee discussed the Narragansett Community Athletic Complex Campaign during a workshop Wednesday.
Committee President Tammy McNeiece and co-chair of the campaign, said that the athletic complex is necessary for Narragansett High School due to the poor condition of the current facilities. The proposed complex would include the addition of synthetic turf, a new eight-lane track, new bleachers and restrooms.
“This is a community project that will benefit the whole town that happens to be located on school grounds,” said McNeiece.
According to the general fund balance analysis, the appropriation for athletic funds total to $1.5 million McNeiece said that the project will be community funded.
“This [$1.5 million] could be a little less and it could be a little more, I want us to be all on the same page,” McNeice said. “It is important for us to come to some consensus early on as we work on the fundraising campaign, we need to get out to donors and people who are donating, and to let people know how this is going to be community funded. So that is why I wanted us to discuss this now.”
Member Keith Ranaldi said that the athletic complex would not only benefit the high school, but it would also benefit the town of Narragansett.
