SOUTH KINGSTOWN â South Kingstown School member Liz Morris officially resigned Tuesday.
Morris, who was absent at Tuesdayâs meeting, sent a letter of resignation, dated Aug. 9, to the committee stating that she would be moving out of state.
Maureen Cotter, committee chair, read the letter aloud during the meeting.
âIt is with deep regret that I must resign from the South Kingstown School Committee,â Morris wrote. âI have been honored to serve the community and I hope that the students of South Kingstown have benefitted from my contributions during my tenure on the school committee. I have faith that the district will provide our students with an excellent education as we are blessed with outstanding leadership in this town.â
Cotter said the committee would send Morris a certificate of appreciation as they have done with past members of the school committee who have resigned.
At the conclusion of the meeting, committee member Scott Mueller said Morris would be missed.
âLiz has sat with us for years now and when I heard that she had to resign it really was sad,â he said. âShe put an awful lot of effort into improving the South Kingstown school system. Iâm sure from all of us, she will be missed.â
The town council is now charged with appointing an individual to serve out the remaining three years of Morrisâ term, as is required by town charter.
