Miozzi settles with EPA

August 11, 2014

COVENTRY — Tom Miozzi, owner of T. Miozzi Asphalt Company, is working with officials from the Environmental Protection Agency to maintain better records regarding the testing of emissions from the plant.
“I don’t deny it happened,” Miozzi said when asked about a complaint lodged against him by the Environmental Protection Agency. “It was not an emissions violation, but a recording violation and because of that I have actually hired someone to do that work because it is so complicated.”
Miozzi runs a hot mix asphalt plant at 75 Airport Rd and has been in business since 2006.
In a press release issued by the EPA, the agency said Miozzi worked quickly to correct the violations they cited and cooperated with the agency in reaching a settlement.
“The original fine was $180,000 but because we immediately took steps to rectify the situation, we were able to negotiate the fine down to $23,700,” he said.
