SK Zoning Board approves special use permit for addition
SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The Mews Tavern on Main Street in Wakefield is renovating. Again.
The South Kingstown Zoning Board approved a special use permit for the Mews to construct a 12-foot by 14-foot addition to the southeast corner of the building, where the restaurant’s owner, Dan Rubino, said they plan to build a new kitchen.
“The main goal is, the way the Mews is set up, is there are five different places where food comes from,” Rubino said. “It’s getting a little more difficult to keep that all together and keep that organized.”
According to Rubino, the proposed addition meets all setback requirements under town zoning ordinance and he is proposing to move one of the existing kitchens, currently located upstairs, to the space.
The restaurant also plans to expand the existing kitchen area to what is now the dining area, which will result in a loss of approximately 60 seats. However, the owners then plan to replace what is now a kitchen area with dining area attached to the tavern portion of the building.
