Martin cited for suspended license

July 10, 2014

A former East Greenwich School Committee member – and current candidate for a seat – is in trouble with the law for operating a motor vehicle while having a suspended license.
Paul Martin, 71, of 57 Brookside Drive, was cited for the infraction by East Greenwich police on June 27 following a minor motor vehicle accident that occurred on Division Street that morning.
Martin recently announced his candidacy for one of the four available seats on the School Committee, a governing body had had served on a couple of occasions within the last decade before his latest term came to an end in 2012. If he collects 50 signatures by the end of this week, Martin – a Republican – will be among 10 candidates vying for spots on the School Committee this election year.
According to the police report obtained by The Pendulum from EGPD, Martin allegedly stated he was traveling east on Division Street when he observed another vehicle back out of a driveway. Martin was transported to Kent County Hospital and treated for injuries he sustained in the crash, which include a fractured patella that has confined him to a wheelchair for the last eight days, according to Martin in a brief phone interview Monday evening.
