NARRAGANSETT â Everybodyâs knuckles were white by the end of Friday nightâs baseball battle at Sprague Field, and it wasnât just because of the cold weather. The Division II - South matchup between Narragansett and Westerly was long anticipated after their last exciting encounter at McCoy Stadium in 2013. The Mariners knocked Westerly out of the state semifinals and thereâs no question that the Bulldogs were looking to take back a little of their pride on Friday night. It didnât happen.
âI credit Kullen McGill,â coach Keith Vellone said postgame. âHe pitched us out of some jams in the early innings, he bared down defensively. We didnât play our best defense tonight and we needed to in order to beat this team, so he really picked us up.â
