NARRAGANSETT â Narragansett Pier Middle School held its first annual walkathon entitled the âMariner Marchâ on Tuesday afternoon.
Some 50 parents, teachers, and students participated in the march to raise awareness and funding for Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS). PBIS is an organization established by the U.S. Department of Educationâs Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) to promote and encourage appropriate, positive, and respectful behavior for students both during school hours and within the community. The event was intended to aid the schoolâs PBIS program in promoting anti-bullying prospects and respect for others among the middle school students who are at an impressionable and important stage in the process of learning how to be respectful individuals within the community.
