Local residents reflect on Boston Marathon experience

Mark Schwager, who once served on the East Greenwich Board of Fire Commissioners, ran his fourth Boston Marathon last Monday and felt the atmosphere all along the 26.2-mile course was beautiful.

One step at a time.

It’s a simple mantra almost every person follows in their paths through life. Sometimes, those paths are 26.2 miles long.

But for a few East Greenwich residents, taking things one step at a time meant more than just grinding through one of the most rigorous road races in the world.

It also meant helping an entire city – and country, for that matter – continue to heal a very deep wound.
