Local human service agencies lobby for funds

March 7, 2014

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – The town manager’s proposed budget includes $147,400 of expenditures to human services agencies who operate in and serve South Kingstown. At a budget work session on Wednesday, several agencies testified to the town council to maintain or increase the level of spending.

“We’re right now providing 52.6 percent of all the municipal contributions that go to various agencies,” said Town Manager Stephen Alfred. “At the same time, the population served from South Kingstown residents is about 23.5 percent. We are providing our fair share.”
