EAST GREENWICH — Having started as a small company in Coventry, Proscape Landscaping is climbing the ladder, having made the Inc. Magazine’s Top 5,000 list.

John Pontarelli, President and founder of Proscape, explained that landscaping has been in his family for many years.

He said he started in the landscaping business in 1988 and opened Proscape in Coventry in 1995.

The company has now been relocated to East Greenwich but provides services to cities and towns throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Proscape provides landscape services, grounds care, lawn care and improvements to parks, apartment complexes, condominiums, campuses and athletic fields.

Pontarelli explained that because his business was doing so well, even during tough economic times, he entered his company to see if it would make the top 5,000 list.

Inc. Magazine had compiled a list of the fastest growing private companies throughout the country.

Proscape ranked 3,594 having a 49 percent growth rate during a three year span. They also ranked 123 within the landscape industry.

“I was overjoyed when we made the list,” he said. “With the economy the way it is, a small company from a small state was able to accomplish this.”

Proscape joined many other private companies including Zillow, iContact, Spirit Airlines, Dunkin Donuts, Vizio and Honest Tea.

“I believe the hard work and dedication of my staff has contributed to the growth of the company,” he said. “We have key office managers and field employees.”
