Labor Board issues new order in fire case

March 6, 2014

NORTH KINGSTOWN—In the ongoing battle between North Kingstown and its firefighters, the Rhode Island State Labor Relations Board (SLRB) has this week issued an order compelling the town once more to ‘cease and desist’ its implementation of the three-platoon schedule, as well as pay back wages and legal costs.

“The decision we received [Monday] was yet again based on facts and evidence, not the endless political talking points and excuses that the town council president released a few weeks ago,” said Ray Furtado, president of the North Kingstown Firefighters Association (NKFFA), Local 1651. “We are constantly approached by taxpayers and residents that can’t understand what the town council is trying to accomplish.”
