NARRAGANSETT - At a special meeting of the Narragansett Town Council on Wednesday evening, the council addressed the contract negotiated and submitted by attorneys for the town and its candidate for interim manager, Richard Kerbel of North Kingstown. In a meeting that lasted less than an hour, the council approved entry into the contract in a 3-2 vote that mirrored that of Monday eveningâs contentious discussion on the same matter.
Council members, Glenna Hagopian and Matthew Mannix voted against, with President James Callaghan, Susan Cicilline-Buananno and Doug McLaughlin voting in the affirmative.
âI said it before and Iâll say it again,â said newly appointed member, Matthew Mannix. âThis process was rushed. It was rushed.â
The agenda, filed late in the afternoon on Monday held only two items for consideration. The call for special meeting on Wednesday and executive session on Thursday were placed on file. The executive session was scheduled to discuss personnel and search committee criteria in locating a candidate past and future.
Council chambers vacant but for a few residents had no resemblance to Monday eveningâs full house where citizens, committee and commission members lined up at the podium to express frustration with the removal of interim manager, Police Chief Dean Hoxsie, now returned to his full-time post as the head of the police department.
