Hopkinton prioritizes CBDG request list

June 19, 2014

HOPKINTON — The town council reviewed and revised its rankings of 13 nonprofit organizations that are part of Hopkinton’s application for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG). This year the town applied for $249,248 and was eligible for up to $250,000.
Hopkinton Town Planner Jim Lamphere said the organizations on the list were required to have a town sponsor in order to qualify for CDBG money and that Hopkinton included them because the town benefitted from their services.
“These organizations have to apply through a town. They’re sub-recipients – they’re not eligible to apply directly,” he said. “They’re going through Hopkinton because they provide services to the Washington County area.”
“Outside agencies apply through multiple towns in Washington County and they get a little bit through each town but things are very competitive out there,” he said.
