Hopkinton Council in favor of DEM property purchase

November 8, 2013

HOPKINTON – The Hopkinton Town Council voted unanimously Monday to indicate the town’s support of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management’s acquisition of 29 acres of land in Hopkinton, known as the Fisher property.
The council voted 5-0 to authorize Town Planner Jim Lamphere to submit positive comments to the Rhode Island Division of Planning regarding the proposed acquisition.
Lamphere told the council that because DEM plans to use federal funds from U.S. Fish and Wildlife to purchase the property, DEM is required to go through an intergovernmental review process, which includes input from the chief elected officials in the town where the property is located.
