Following the events from September 11, 2001, and upheld by the admiration for heroes employed as firefighters, emergency medical technicians and law enforcement officers, a group of Minnesota business owners got together and created a network of real estate professionals called Homes for Heroes, in an effort to offer savings to those who serve when they buy, sell or refinance their homes.

Since it’s beginning, the program has expended to include past and present military, educators and healthcare professionals.

Currently helping people in many Midwest states the organization is now in Rhode Island and to kickoff that celebration Saturday were members of the organization, real estate professionals, local delegates and members of the Hopkins Hill Fire District.

Katrina Lemme and Monika Picard, Re/Max realtors, were thrilled to be part of the celebration.

“Those who are looking for assistance can log on to our website, homesforheroes.com, and easily find the help they need,” Lemme said. “The total amount someone would save depends on the value of their home but application fees and other fees are waived or discounted.”

Hopkins Hill Fire District Chief Frank Brown said the real heroes are the people who put the organization together and make it all work.
