WEST WARWICK — Two local men have been indicted by the Statewide Grand Jury in connection with the death of a West Warwick man.

According to the jury report, Justin Schoonmaker, 23, of 64 Brookside Ave., West Warwick was charged with one count of murder and Christopher Schreffler, 21, of 600 Providence St., West Warwick was charged with one count of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of second degree murder.

On Feb. 25, 2012, it is alleged that an altercation occurred between Schreffler and Michael Parrish, 56, of West Warwick after Schreffler was operating a dirt bike around a residential street.

According to the police investigation, words were exchanged and Schreffler left, soon to return with Schoonmaker and two other men. Schoonmaker was the operator of the vehicle.

Schreffler exited the vehicle with a flashlight, prompting Parrish to come and fight. He then assaulted Michael Nigro with the flashlight.

During the altercation, Schoonmaker allegedly put the vehicle into reverse and backed up next to the group.

After a male bystander punched the back window, Schoonmaker allegedly accelerated backwards and struck Parrish.

The vehicle drove forward and ran over Parrish a second time before fleeing the scene.

Parrish passed away from his massive blunt force trauma injuries shortly after at Kent County Hospital.

Both men are scheduled to be arraigned in Kent County Superior Court on Feb. 1.
