SMITHFIELD—Wednesday’s governor’s forum, cosponsored by the League of Women’s Voters, ABC-TV, WRNI public radio, and Bryant University lacked the energy and ideas of Tuesday’s Channel 12 debate. In the usual League format (as seen in the Meet the Candidates forums in Narragansett earlier this month) candidates were slotted 45 seconds to answer a question and issued wild cards to extend or inject remarks.

The eligible candidates were Ronald Algieri (I), Kenneth Block (M), Frank Caprio (D), Lincoln Chafee (I), Tod Giroux (I), Joseph Lusi (I), and John Robitaille (R). It was with sad irony that seven candidates came to speak at a college campus but not one spoke about the plight of colleges in Rhode Island.
