Golfers tee-up at Metacomet on Tuesday

August 14, 2014

EAST PROVIDENCE—Competitive high school golfers participated in the 93rd annual Rhode Island Junior Amateur Golf Tournament at Metacomet Country Club in East Providence on Tuesday, with a chance to boost their confidence and try to advance to the next round of play.
Tuesday’s events included pairings of golfers in a stroke-play matchup of 18 holes. The tournament involves both men and women from all over the state of Rhode Island. The Men’s cut for this round would end at 16 and hold up to 64. The Women’s side would be much different as it is based in one division of 16 participants. Qualifiers who play well will move onto the next round in Match-play.
It all began early in the morning at 7:30 a.m. with the first golfer Reed Nani teeing off. Nani is a member of Point Judith Country Club in Narragansett. Other notable players in attendance from that course included: Braxton Fish, Luke Underhill, Ben Steingold, Robert Durant, and Harrison Bell.
