General assembly races heating up

July 16, 2014

As November nears, candidates for the Rhode Island General Assembly are beginning their campaigns.
However, Rep. Donald Lally Jr., who serves District 33 - Narragansett, South Kingstown, won’t have to worry about campaigning, as he is running unopposed for the first time since he was elected in November 1989. Lally, who was named speaker pro tempore in April, is ranked third in the Rhode Island House of Representatives in terms of seniority.
For District 34, incumbent Democrat Teresa Tanzi will face off against Republican Stephen Tetzner. This is Tetzner’s second bid for a General Assembly seat; he first ran in 2012 but was defeated by former Narragansett Town Councilor Christopher Wilkens in the Republican primary.
In a statement issued Monday, Tetzner challenged Tanzi, who has represented District 34 since 2010, to a debate.
