Gamba, Costa criticized for edited poster

August 28, 2014

NORTH KINGSTOWN—District 32 candidate Sharon Gamba has received a fair share of criticism over the past week by placing her name on a poster promoting North Kingstown resident and country music artist Tim Charron’s free concert, which took place last night. The poster was originally designed and approved by the concert organizer, the North Kingstown Arts Council, and distributed in the Aug. 21 edition of The Northeast Independent, a move which was not approved by the council.
In an Aug. 26 letter to North Kingstown Assistant Town Solicitor Donald Maroney, NKAC chairperson Pamela Galli stated that the council did not sanction the addition of the phrase ‘Representative Doreen Costa and Candidate Sharon Gamba invite you to attend’ at the top of the concert advertisement.
She further noted that no public funds were spent by the council on the edited poster in response to Maroney’s cease and desist letter, sent on Monday, and that the advertisement was meant to be used promotionally by Centreville Bank, who also sponsored the event.
