Former NK officer dies after bus accident

June 5, 2014

PROVIDENCE—Last Wednesday afternoon, security officer Frank McKnight was struck by a RIPTA bus on Washington Street in Providence just outside the federal courthouse, causing injuries to which he succumbed on Thursday around 6:30 p.m. The 69 year-old, who served as a security officer for 12 years, had been a North Kingstown police officer from 1975 until his retirement in April 2002.

“He was a very personable guy, very soft spoken in how he dealt with people,” said North Kingstown Police Chief Thomas Mulligan about McKnight. “He was very much a people person and could strike up a conversation with anybody and make them feel comfortable.”

Last Friday, a number of state and local officials gave their condolences to McKnight’s family, as well as to colleagues past and present, regarding the officer’s passing.
