Embury defends non-audit services

February 27, 2014

At the Feb. 10 town council meeting, councilman Richard Welch expressed concern about the town’s audit firm, LGC&D, conducting separate non-audit services after the town’s former financial controller, Jeanna Krukowski, left for a position in South Kingstown. Town Manager Michael Embury explained Monday evening that the work was necessary to close this year’s budget process.

NORTH KINGSTOWN—On Monday evening, North Kingstown Town Manager Michael Embury defended the town’s position in contracting approximately $38,000 in non-audit services this past fall after the departure of town finance controller Jeanna Krukowski, who followed former finance director Patricia Sunderland to a position in South Kingstown last July.

Embury explained that the work was done by LGC&D, a CPA and business advising firm, on an emergency basis because of the controller’s departure in order to finish last year’s budget process.
