EG’s bats silenced by Coventry’s Marcotte

April 30, 2014

East Greenwich shortstop Michael DeFusco tries to slap a tag on an incoming Coventry runner at second base during the Avengers’ loss to the Oakers.

COVENTRY — It took three weeks, but the Coventry baseball team has figured out what is needed to win games at the Division I level.

The Oakers lost their first five Division I-South contests of the season, but they followed up an impressive victory over Portsmouth last Tuesday afternoon with an equally-impressive victory over visiting East Greenwich last Thursday.

Junior pitcher Max Marcotte allowed one earned run on seven hits in a complete-game effort, while senior shortstop Shaun Vigeant scored a pair of runs in a 5-3 victory over the Avengers.
